I'm actually watching Boston Legal right now and it's saying something pretty closely related--basically that we're always expected to be happy now, and it's no longer acceptable to be melancholy (even though people like Lincoln and Lord Byron certainly weren't very happy)...

There does seem to be a sense of entitlement regarding happiness and good fortune, when there probably shouldn't be.
