apparently, my cell phone contract expires in 10 days. oops. it's too late to take my number with me if i do switch. awesome.

anyway, i'd been thinking about switching to verizon for their in-network calling deal, but i don't think i know that many people who use thier service.

i could stay with cingular, but then i definitely need to get a new phone so that maybe, just maybe, i can get some fucking reception inside of my apartment. i tried looking at their calling plans online today, but i can't even find the plan i have now, so i guess i need to go to an actual store. that makes me angry and only increases my desire to switch.

i also looked at at&t and t-mobile, but both of those services seem too expensive for me. i'm looking to spend $40/month or less.

so, for those of you with cell phones:

what service do you use?
how do you like it? (will you keep it when your contract is up?)
how much is your plan and what features does it carry?

thanks for your help, kids.

Contrarty to Tyler's story, I have cingular and like it. This may be because I'm not the one paying for any of it, but whatever. I've had it for about 3 years now, including the two summers I marched, and here at school. I never had many problems with area-related reception. I mean yeah, inside buildings is sometimes sketchy, but as an overall around the country they are really good. Although, I don't know how much cross- country traveling you will be doing!

I'm on the 250 min/month plan for $30 a month. It's okay, I just have to watch when I use the phone here because I use it as my primary mode of communication and I've gone over in daytime minutes several times. I get basically unlimited night and weekend minutes. So when I'm home it's good because I hardly use it except to call people during nights or weekends.

uh..I think that may have been incohesive and uncomprehendable! haha.

Re: Hmm...
yeah my cell phone is my only phone, so i have to watch my daytime minutes sometimes (but that's why i like that rollover feature on the bigger plans).

still, i can't even get reliable reception outside of my building, so i think cingular is out.

and thanks for your input!

Re: Hmm...
It might just be your phone... do other cingular people have trouble in your building?

I feel like I'm a salesman or something, but just offering suggestions! :)

hate to love that cell phone
well, i had a major problem with at&t wireless.
my phone worked great up here in bloomington but did NOT work down in madison. at&t wireless gsm phones will NOT work in madison because they don't have a tower down there. so, if you wanted a phone with a color screen or camera, you can't go with at&t and expect to use the phone in madison too. however, my sister, who lives in madison, uses at&t wireless and has a pretty nice motorolla flip phone and she doesn't have any problems with it there, but, the nationwide coverage isn't as broad as a gsm phone would be. get it? it sucks because i wanted at&t because of their cheap rates.

anyway, now i have cingular. i have a gsm phone, pay $50/month, have 500 daytime minutes, a crapload of night/weekend minutes which i rarely even touch though i talk a lot, text messages are pretty cheap, rollover minutes (which have saved me so much money), and i have yet to find an area where i am completly out of service.

i sound like a cellphone genius, but really its only because i went through hell!

good luck.

Re: verizon
you know i've had trouble calling verizon phones from my cingular phone. sometimes the call won't even go through. i wonder what the trouble is.

verizon also seems to have the best reception in my building to. i can't imagine why it would be different, but that's lame.

thanks for the info!
